The first three years of this course are the same as for Linguistics BA (Hons). If you choose this 4 year option you will focus on Cognitive Linguistics (Bilingualism MArts or Linguistics MArts are also options), during which you will take three postgraduate level modules and complete a dissertation on a research topic closely linked to your chosen field. The aim of the fourth year is to develop your academic and transferrable skills and to increase your employability.

About this course
The course aims to enable understudies to: Students will demonstrate familiarity with the core areas of linguistics
Students will develop knowledge of basic terminology and techniques for the analysis of natural language.
Students will achieve a basic understanding of a wide range of topics in the study of natural language.
Students will develop a basic ability to analyse natural language data, and to carry out phonetic transcription.
Students will develop the ability to plan and write an academic essay, plan and prepare an oral presentation,and to prepare appropriately and effectively for examinations.
A degree from the School of Linguistics and English Language equips you with knowledge and skills which will open many doors for you when choosing a career.
Our courses in Child Language Acquisition, Speech and Language Disorders offer a good foundation for those who wish to pursue postgraduate training in speech and language therapy in order to qualify as a speech and language therapist.
Our courses on English Grammar and Child Language Acquisition offer a good foundation for those who wish to pursue a PGCE (teacher training qualification).
Courses in Teaching English as a foreign Language are invaluable for those who wish to teach English Overseas.
