Course programme
This one day extends a metal clay artist's skill set with techniques for adding colour with UV Resin to pieces made from Art Clay Silver (ACS) or Precious Metal Clay (PMC) – techniques which can also be used on other materials such as copper, bronze and other base metals.
UV resin remains workable until it is cured with UV light, so there is no long waiting time for layers to set. Those who make photopolymer plates already have all the equipment needed. Cured UV resin is extremely hard and durable an can be used to create the same effects as traditional vitreous enamel without the need for kiln firing or the unpredictability of colour outcomes. In addition, the technique can be used to embed embellishments or to glaze and protect fragile components such as photographs.
The course normally lasts for about 6 hours and teaches a variety of methods for adding colour to prepared pieces. The cost of the course includes base metal blanks for practising the techniques, UV resin and colourants, Art Clay Silver to make a final piece, findings and the use of all tools needed. Students also receive a bound set of workshop notes to keep.
This class is not suitable for beginners and will most benefit those with intermediate or advanced skills with metal clay.
