Combined H & B (NVQ2 Beauty)

This course is suited to prospective students who are able to demonstrate a high degree of self motivation in following two disciplines and the level of study required to be successful on this demanding course.
Applicants will need to demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm, a professional manner and appearance and an aptitude for working with people.

3 GCSEs minimum grade D preferably English, Maths or Science, plus students should demonstrate commitment, the ability to work with people and an interest in hairdressing and beauty therapy. A satisfactory interview and references are required.

This course includes an integrated programme studying both an NVQ Level 1 in hairdressing and an NVQ Level 2 in beauty therapy, developing the practical skills required by both industries. This is a highly demanding course and needs the student to be self-disciplined with excellent time management skills and stamina in order to meet their goal. Practical sessions occur in commercially working salons and clinics in college. Educational visits and competitions are normally part of the curriculum. Key Skills are an integral part of the course.

Consists of six units
This is a foundation course to prepare successful students for NVQ2 Hairdressing

Assist with salon reception duties - G2

Shampoo and condition hair - H1
Prepare for hairdressing services and maintain work areas - H5

Assist with hair colour services - H37

Educational visits may include the National Beauty Exhibition and Salon International. Students will participate in college competitions. All students will study towards Key Skills certification.

Students will be continually assessed through a series of practical, written and oral assessments. Additional evidence will be required through assignment work. Standards require students to work to a "commercially viable time".

Further study NVQ Level 3 Beauty Therapy or NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing.
Possible careers include therapist in a salon (Level 2 work only), consultant on cosmetic counter or working as a junior in a salon.
