Why study the Bachelor of CommunicationCommunication at UQ puts you at the centre of the contemporary information society and economy. You will develop knowledge of communication and communication processes.Communication straddles many aspects of life and work. In the core courses you will develop understanding and skills in a number of areas: visual, written, multimedia and spoken and interpersonal communication and in researching and exploring communications. You specialise by choosing a major, alongside electives, a second major or a minor. All combine practice and theory and provide a platform for either employment or further study.Communication is an expanding area of employment and the Bachelor of Communication is a preparation for careers in public relations, advertising, media planning and analysis; film and television; web design and management; business communication; health promotion, and more. Further study can lead to careers in teaching.

Program structure
The courses offered in the Bachelor of Communication are set out in the course list. Each course is allocated a certain number of units (#). A standard full-time study load is 8 units per semester.
The Program Rules explain what is required to complete the Bachelor of Communication. These requirements include the total number of units you need to complete in order to graduate.
To have your degree conferred, you also need to comply with UQ’s policies and rules.

A student is required to obtain 48 units from the BCommun course list comprising:

20 units of compulsory core courses from Part A; and
12 unit Major from Part B; and
16 units of Electives from -
(i) Part B (which may include an additional major); and/or
(ii) Part C (which may include up to 2 minors); and/or
(iii) Other courses (please seek advice from Program Director about course selection)
