About this course

Standard entry to this course requires a minimum of 72 UCAS points from a recognised level 3 qualification in a related subject (which can include A levels, extended diploma PPP, or an Access to HE). You are expected to hold GCSE English and maths at grade 4/C or equivalent. We welcome applicants who may not match standard entry requirements but who hold a level 2 functional skills in English and maths. You must be able to demonstrate an ability to study this subject at university level and have evidence of relevant experience.

Course programme

Year 1

The course consists of 16 modules for the foundation degree. The first four modules make up the University Certificate of Professional Development and give 60 Higher Education credits: Research, Study Skills and Personal Development; Common Physiological Disorders; Differences and Diversity in Britain and an Introduction to Developmental Psychology. On successful completion of these, you will study the additional foundation degree modules: An Introduction to Management; Community Health and Well Being; Social Context of Family Life and an Introduction to Counselling Skills.

Year 2

After successful completion of the first year (level 4), you can then progress to level 5 of the course. The level 5 modules are directly linked to those at level 4, including Sociology of Health; Developing Leadership; Safeguarding People at Risk; Mental Health: Experience, Policy and Practice; Development of Public and Community Services; Neighbourhood and Community Welfare and Health and Community Research Studies.

Additional information

Whilst primarily an academic programme of studies there are a variety of assessment methods used for different modules. This may include presentations, role play, synoptic exams, written reports and essays.
