As an HLTA your role involves initiating, developing, supporting and maintaining positive relationships with the people you come into contact with within your working environment, such as children (0 – 18 years), parents, carers (including child minders, grandparents and other guardians such as foster parents), teachers and other colleagues, other professionals outside of the school environment (such as social workers, therapists, medical practitioners and Ofsted inspectors) and child and adult visitors.
Positive communication will lead to positive relationships. If you talk to an individual in a positive way (for example praising a child’s efforts and accentuating acceptable behaviour or approaching a parent confidently and openly) it is likely that they will be more open to suggestions and discussions.
