What's it all about?:
Computer Aided Design (CAD) on desktop computers is now the most common tool for all designers. The market leader in software is AutoCAD and City & Guilds have a range of qualifications for this and sister CAD packages. It is one of the few national qualifications of this type. The aim of this introductory programme is to provide you with a good foundation for using AutoCAD. AutoCAD is a sophisticated drawing package not just for Architects but any type of user, for example internal designer and shop floor planner and much more.

Courses run in September and January.

Progression:
Successful students can progress to the Advanced CAD City & Guilds course at the College and then to 3D design.

Entry Requirements:
In our experience to be successful on this course you will need the following:
  • four GCSEs at grades D-F (including English and maths)
  • a BTEC foundation diploma in a related subject
  • an NVQ level 1/technical certificate in a related subject
  • successful completion of the Jumpstart programme
  • successful completion of the E2E/Prince†s Trust programme
  • equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

What does the course involve?:

You will study the following:
  • drawing a range of shapes accurately
  • modifying drawings using specialist commands
  • text entry
  • layering
  • creating templates
  • basic computer hardware.


When can I study?:
Mondays or Wednesdays, 5.30pm - 8.30pm

Are there any exams?:
You will be assessed in the use of basic AutoCAD software commands and facilities, progressing through structured exercises to the preparation of complete drawings. The course includes two practical assessments and one multiple choice paper.
