Course programme

Solid Modelling is an important design tool used by all major industrial companies with an ever increasing number of smaller companies recognising its potential benefits.

The software produces accurate and realistic 3D Solid Models and quickly assembles models which would be far more time consuming on traditional CAD software. The Solid Model can then be utilised in other stages of design / development such as testing, prototyping and even manufacture - things that simple drawing techniques could not achieve, including animation or assemblies.

This course covers 8 learning outcomes. The candidate will be able to:

  • Use associated IT, CAD hardware and operating systems
  • Use basic file management techniques and maintain health and safety requirements
  • Understand the parametric modelling process, the user interface and how to access help and tutorials
  • Use a range of commands to create and constrain sketches
  • Use the range of commands to produce extruded and revolved features
  • Use placed features to modify parametric models
  • Use methods to create assemblies including animations
  • Use the drawing layout environment to produce hard copies

The software package used on this course is Autodesk Inventor.
