Who is this course for?

This is an evening course designed for individuals who are interested in how to upgrade and maintain computers or considering a career as an IT technician. Possible future career paths include IT help-desk operator, IT support or network technician. The course provides a mix of theory and practical subjects as well as on-line materials and prepares learners for the CompTIA A+ vendor qualification. The course is an excellent choice for individuals who are interested in the practical aspects of computer operation and wish to develop their skills and knowledge in that area.

What qualifications or experience do I need ?

There are no formal qualification requirements but an interest in and knowledge of computer hardware is essential. Not suitable for novices.

What will I study ?

The materials will be based on the CompTIA A+ and Cisco IT Essentials examination curriculum. You will study a number of subjects including: Computer Hardware, Operating systems, Maintenance and Repair, Networking, Printers, Mobile phones and Troubleshooting.

How will I be assessed ?

This course has no formal exam assessment but does have an informal lab practical assessment. This course has no formal exam assessment requirements but you will be given an opportunity to complete the Cisco IT Essentials Certification as part of this course and there will be an informal lab practical assessment. Those wishing to carry onto the CompTIA A+ certification are given suggestions for recommended assessment resources.

What qualifications could I achieve ?

Class certification (and potentially Cisco IT Essentials 5.0). Leads towards and CompTIA A+ computer maintenance.
