Introduction:
During this Level 2 (Intermediate) course you will develop your working knowledge of computers. You will learn by completing a range of activities and practical tasks (both hardware and software) related to the assembly and maintenance of personal computers. This includes fault diagnosis and repair as well as essential networking skills.

Study Mode & Location:
This 33 week Part-Time+ course will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
You will study six units which will look at:

  • Introduction to Computer Systems.
  • Installing Hardware Components.
  • Website Development.
  • Technical Fault Diagnosis & Remedy.
  • Using ICT to Present Information.
  • Networking Essentials.


You will also have a weekly tutorial to discuss your progress and to help plan your studies. Due to the practical nature of the course any additional time spent practicing away from College will help you achieve a better understanding.

Assessment:
For each unit you will develop a portfolio of evidence, including assignments and evidence of practical work.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
This one year course provides an excellent foundation for further study or employment. On completion you may enrol on a more advanced course such as the Advanced Networking (Cisco CCNA) or a HNC or Foundation Degree.

Additional Costs:
There will be a resource charge of £75 for this course (this fee will be substantially reduced if you are on income-based benefits).

How To Apply
You will need to complete a Further Education Application Form. These will be available from mid-May.
Many courses have limited places so please return your application form as soon as possible. Following acceptance of your application, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.

Part-Time+ Course Benefits
