We encounter computer science daily as mobile embedded systems, networks and security, software engineering, data mining, machine learning, computer graphics, and bioinformatics are a mainstay of our everyday lives. The Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science at the JKU focuses on honing problem-solving skills and teaching students how to develop IT systems for real-world applications.

About this course

The Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science not only provides the required background education to pursue a Master's degree, the program allows graduates to pursue professions in information and communications technologies. The curriculum focuses on key areas of computer sciences, giving you the opportunity to hone problem-solving skills. The program focuses on:

Research: Based on principles of research-led teaching, students are given an opportunity to become actively involved in current research projects at the institute.
Specialize according to personal interests: In addition to completing mandatory modules, students can choose from a wide range of electives and create a curriculum based on personal interests.
Related subjects: In addition to base-knowledge education in computer science, the program focuses on conveying team-building skills as well as basic education in business, law, project organization and presentation technologies.

Students can earn academic credit for technical and engineering classes taken at secondary-level schools (such as at an HTL school).

Newly enrolled students can take revision courses before beginning studies:

Preparation Courses: These courses have been designed for new students and provide a condensed review of material taught at higher levels schools in order to prepare students for initial university-level lectures. Attendance is optional.

Mentoring Program: JKU faculty members meet with newly enrolled students in small groups and provide tips and advice pertaining to studies.

Computer Science Workshops: These specialized workshops have been designed especially for school students (10th class onward) who have a particular interest in Computer Science.
