Description

The Broad Discipline of Computing comprises three awards. It aims to give students the flexibility to decide on the final award in their first year of study.

The BSc(Hons) in Computing aims to equip graduates with solid computing foundations in areas such as programming, computational thinking and data structure to develop professional computer systems and software. Students develop strong problem-solving abilities and become highly competent in software development for virtually all sectors.
The BSc(Hons) in Enterprise Information Systems aims to provide graduates with a good balance of business and technical background. Graduates are equipped with strong competence in investigating business systems, identifying options for improving those systems and bridging the needs of business with the use of IT. They also gain strong abilities to develop information systems and manage business projects in the commercial sector.
The BSc(Hons) in Information Technology integrates three major IT technologies: software, infrastructure and networking. The programme offers state-of-the-art courses in areas such as game design and development, systems security, cloud computing, embedded systems, mobile computing and social computing. Graduates are trained to think creatively and systematically, ensuring their success in the IT industry.

Course programme

All students are admitted to the Broad Discipline of Computing. In the first year, they take a common set of subjects to lay a foundation for university study and gain a taste of the broad discipline. In the second year, they can select the individual awards and study the corresponding content. All three awards feature the minor option and an individual or a group integrative capstone project in the final year.

Computing - BSc(Hons)

  • Year One: fundamental knowledge, laying the foundation for university study, a taste of the broad discipline.
  • Year Two: generic broadening computing skills, and basic business and management concepts.
  • Year Three: strengthening computing technologies and applications in IT.
  • Final Year: specialisation in different areas such as data mining, computer graphics, e-commerce, Internet computing, multimedia computing and game programming.

​Enterprise Information Systems - BSc(Hons)

  • Year One: fundamental knowledge, laying the foundation for university study and gaining a taste of the broad discipline.
  • Year Two: basic computing and IT concepts, underlying technologies, business, accounting and management concepts.
  • Year Three: a broadening year featuring various aspects of computing skills and knowledge of enterprise information systems.
  • Final Year: specialisation in areas such as Information System Management, Audit & Control, Decision Support, Knowledge & Project Management, Business Process Management, Logistics and Workflow.

Information Technology - BSc(Hons)

  • Year One: fundamental knowledge, laying the foundation for university study and gaining a taste of the broad discipline.

  • Years Two and Three: basic knowledge in computing and hardware with emphasis on innovative computing paradigm, networking, IT infrastructure design, implementation and maintenance.

  • Final Year: corporate Networking and Internet Security, System Programming, Embedded Computing, and the integration of IT technologies with practical systems and applications.
