The Level 2 qualification in Information Technology opens up an incredible world
of opportunities for work, not only within the technology industry but
also in supporting roles within other industries.

IT students will develop technical skills and knowledge, that goes
without saying. They will also need other talents such as the ability
to communicate clearly at all levels, to plan and to manage a project.
Decision making and problem-solving are also important.

OCR’s IT suite of qualifications opens doors to diverse career
paths: roles within the games design industry, web and animation
development or network management or perhaps network security,
digital forensics or mobile app development. Whatever path your
students follow, the OCR IT suite provides a comprehensive range of
qualifications to prepare them, plus flexibility and support for you.

What modules are covered?

You will study the following 2 Mandatory units:

Communicating in the IT Industry - This unit will make you understand the impact of IT on individuals, communities and society. You will also learn how to communicate information to suit audience purpose and content along with being able to use IT tools to communicate and exchange information.

Working in the IT industry - This unit will help you understand the characteristics that are valued by employers in the IT industry and to know the common job roles undertaken by people working in the IT industry.

Then a choice of 4 - 6 Units from a range including:-

Installing Computer Hardware

Setting up an IT network

Mobile Communications Technology

Multi Media DesignWebsite Development

Software/Hardware Systems Development

Students will also be required to attend Functional Skills Level 2 for English and Maths (unless they already hold a Level 2 certificate in these)

Functional Skills Level 2 Maths

How will I be assessed?

The unit assessment is course work based on assignments that will be graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction level. Each of these grades is worth points and the final grade for the qualification is determined by the final number of points achieved.

Visiting moderators will sample all the Unit's marked on a regular basis.

For Functional Skills English/Maths an exam is required.

Minimum qualifications: Level 1

4 Grade D GCSEs including Maths and English or a Merit in a Level 1 course plus Application of Number and Communication passes at Level 1 including ESOL Level 1.

What else do I need to know?

Attendance - 3 days a week in college with an additional day of Independent Learning which can be in college or at home.

What can I do after this course?

The OCR Level 2 Diploma provides the knowledge, understanding and skills for those wishing to enter a career in ICT and also provides a seamless progression to a OCR Level 3 Extended Diploma. To progress to the OCR Level 3 Extended Diploma,  you will need to gain a Merit in your OCR Level 2 Diploma in Information and Creative Technology, plus Functional Skills in English and Maths at Level 2.
