Course programme
Summary
All types of construction whether that be office blocks, domestic housing, bridges, roads or railways need to be designed, planned and the building process managed. If you are interested in a career in architecture, civil engineering, construction management, building surveying or the more technical side of construction this course offers a vocational alternative to A-levels.
The course combines classroom based learning, practical activities and engagement with employers to give you an insight into the various roles within the industry as well as providing worthwhile relevant work experience. Employers such as Kier, LSI Architects, Morgan Sindall and Ingleton Wood are involved by providing professional experience and site visits.
Many of our previous students have gone onto to secure employment with the employers they meet on the course. To take your classroom learning out onto site, City College Norwich was the first further education college to become involved in Constructionarium. This week long residential provides a hands-on construction experience for students; where they construct scaled down versions of bridges, buildings, dams and civil engineering projects from all around the world. To widen your knowledge and experience of the industry we have a regular trips abroad to look at architecture, planning and galleries. In previous years we have visited Berlin, Barcelona and Paris.
You will study a range of units which may include topographic Surveying in Construction and Civil Engineering - carry out land surveys using appropriate equipment to produce accurate drawings.
