About this course
No formal academic qualification are required but students must be at least 16 years of age. The course is open to mature students, to the disabled and any student with some knowledge of English (even as a second language.) All students are required to attend a formal interview and sit an assessment test.

Construction and the Built Environment - Carpentry
Construction Diploma Level 1 & 2 (formerly FCA & ICA) Carpentry and Joinery (Full-Time)(2010/2011)
Study Method:
On this two year course the study methods include formal classes, student -centred learning, tutorials and practical workshop activities.
Duration :Two and a Half Days per week for 2 years
Who the Course is For:
This course is designed for school leavers and those students who wish to gain the necessary skills required in all aspects of the carpentry and joinery trade.
Assessment:
Consists of theory and practical assessments for all units when you and your lecturer feel that you are capable of achieving the standards required by industry. Arrangements will then be made so that the assessment can take place. It should be noted that the job knowledge should be completed before the practical assessment. Formal assessment takes place at Foundation/Intermediate. The practical activities are continuously assessed by the practical tutor & monitored by a City & Guilds Verifier
Course Leads To:
By the end of year 2 you should have achieved the Level 2 Diploma. Gaining a nationally recognised qualification can lead to work within the construction industry.
