Year 1 introduces skills and fundamental engineering/construction concepts; specific engineering mathematics and science for construction practice; theory of Building Information Modelling (BIM), engineering drawing, including AutoCAD; construction management; and materials, structures, computing, professional practice, sustainability and health and safety issues. Soil mechanics, construction techniques, including practical surveying, are also introduced. You will undertake model-making exercises in the structures laboratory, and use computer-aided design packages to communicate your ideas efficiently.
Year 2 includes extensive work in construction materials, BIM-enabled sustainable design (ie using Revit software), technology, surveying, business and legal principles including contract administration and project and business management. Two residential field courses in engineering surveying and geotechnics will enhance your practical skills and develop management principles.
Year 3 involves the in-depth study and application of contractual procedures including health and safety and environmental law, site practice and management, including a construction site visit, managing collaborative workflows in a BIM environment and building and environmental engineering. You will carry out an individual project focused on research into a specialised subject.

About this course
This degree blends technical expertise with management skills, teaching you the skills needed to manage construction projects.
You spend time in the laboratories looking at practical aspects of the subject, such as:
surveying techniques;
how to run tests on building materials; and
design and construction techniques.
Our hands-on approach puts you in real-life situations. Work experience opportunities and residential field trips help cement the principles of surveying. We have good contacts with the construction industry.
This course directly reflects the needs of industry, across the full spectrum of construction management roles.
You spend your third year on a work placement in the industry, which gives you valuable experience.
There are a wide range of postgraduate courses to go on to.
You will have the opportunity to study a foreign language, free of charge, during your time at the University on a not-for-credit basis as part of the Kingston Language Scheme. Options currently include: Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
96 UCAS points: to include at least two A-levels (Maths or Science subject preferred)
General studies at A-level or AS-level counted at half points
Native language at A-level only counted in addition to the two A-levels subjects
BTEC Extended Diploma (grades MMM) or BTEC National Diploma (grades DD) in any subjects
