Covering: different methods of contraception and their advantages and disadvantages, How to confidently advise on contraceptive options in individual clinical cases, How to explain to patients how each contraceptive method should be used, The ethical and legal aspects of contraceptives and their prescription in various scenarios. Course Information Start DateStart TimeDurationCostCourse CodeApply 21 October 2016 09:30 Full day £180.00 CS6001 Apply Now Tutor Info Val McMunn is a qualified nurse, midwife, teacher, Independent nurse prescriber and is employed as a lecturer at City University London in contraception, sexual health and cytology.She holds an MSc in Public Health and a Post Graduate Certificate in Sexual health as well as being an Associate of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and holds a letter of competence for intrauterine techniques and subdermal Implants.She currently works clinically within contraception/sexual health services where she maintains her clinical skills and knowledge.Her previous roles have been working ITU nurse, school nurse, midwife both in hospital and in the community, family planning nurse, community midwife manager, manager of family planning services, Assistant Director of Midwifery and Gynaecology and has been a lecturer for 13 years.She has published work in regard to alcohol consumption related to sexual behaviour and Chlamydia infection in young women and oropharyngeal health in relation to sexually transmitted infections linked to oral sex. Last year she presented at the Dentist and Dental Hygienist Annual Conference in Birmingham. Topics being presented on the day include:
Combined oral contraception, combined hormonal methods of contraception, Progesterone only pill, Implants, injectable contraception, intra uterine methods, pregnancy testing, Fraser guidelines, new methods, the menstrual cycle in relation to contraception methods, contraception for the older woman, postpartum contraception, barrier methods , emergency contraception.
However each method that is covered will present:
- The advantages and disadvantages; benefits and risks
- Who will be eligible to use the method in relation to the UKMEC criteria
- History taking to ensure safe care
- Up to date information and guidance given by the faculty of sexual health and reproductive health care
- New research related to the method
- The key points of information that is needed to be given to clients.
This up-to-date day is interactive and draws from real-life clinical scenarios from both the delegates and the tutor.
