A freelance technical designer she has unique insight into all aspects of technical design and specialises in the plus cup size market. Laura has worked on the development of an integral support nightwear range for a specialist fit retailer, as well as developments for maternity and mastectomy lingerie brands, underwire developments with leading component suppliers, swimwear for the plus cup size and core size markets.

Course programme

Corsetry Corsetry is an area of the lingerie market that is always in demand but to do it well requires training from a highly skilled individual with an appreciation of hand finishing techniques as well as more traditional methods. Course aims This course provides delegates with the opportunity to understand and explore pattern cutting and manufacture techniques specifically for corsetry. As part of the course attendees will also have the opportunity to attend a seminar on the history of the corset as well as explore techniques from the pattern development to the finished garment. Objectives The course includes: • Historical and contemporary design • Pattern cutting • Corsetry manufacture and finishing techniques • Fitting and understanding fit as a specialist and commercial garment Learning outcomes At the end of the course delegates will be able to: • Understand the pattern development of a corset block. • Relate to design and style development techniques. • Gain an appreciation of fabrics and components. • Understand hand finishing and manufacture techniques. • Research into historical and contemporary design. • Understand fit and fitting as a specialist and commercial garment. Delivery The course will be delivered at De Montfort University over four days and includes pattern cutting, sewing sessions in the machine and a guest lecture from Gillian Proctor on the history of the corset.
