The editor, better known as an editorial curator, is a central figure in the publishing world. His task is to assist the author during the drafting of the work. The editor gives advice on how to file, edit, structure the text to make it suitable for publication. A similar role also exists in the newsrooms. The curator's work concerns the realization of the textual part of the editorial project. In particular, he deals with the following tasks: revision of the text; editorial reading; parts structure; compilation of indices and securities; verification of proofreading and collation; comparison with the text corrected by the author; final check of the blueprint before printing. The work of the curators is coordinated by the editorial director, superintendent of the works relating to the textual part (editing; proofreading; quality verification). This is generally supported by an artistic director, who instead supervises the visual part of the production process (complementary to the textual one). The figure of the editorial curator is also distinguished from another figure typical of the publishing world: the reviewer, whose job consists in improving the text presented by the writer on a structural level (plot, construction of characters, dialogues, etc.). His work, therefore aimed at refining (and adapting) the stylistic rendering of the work (novel or essay), takes the name of 'editorial standardization' (or editing). The editorial standardization of a literary work "is divided into several phases, ranging from linguistic revision (which basically concerns the purity and elegance of the exposition) to the refinement of expression (which concerns the effectiveness of communication in close relationship with the contents). Both phases obviously require from the editor a solid literary preparation, an aptitude for criticism and good taste ».
