The Course
The course is intended for anyone who wishes to learn counselling skills and/or people in a learning, helping or guidance environment.
This course gives a thorough grounding in becoming a skilled helper with the use of counselling skills. It is a stand alone course, teaching transferable communication skills for different settings and prepares the students wishing to go on to the next level of their training. Students need to be 20 or over with life and work experience and good comprehension skills. There will be three Saturday workshops.

Course Content
The course aims to enable participants to acquire and develop counselling skills in order to facilitate others to develop.
The course will be person centred and participative. Counselling Skills and course content will mainly be taught experientially in small workshop groups. The course encourages self-exploration and self-awareness as ways of overcoming blocks to learning and growing both in the student and those the student may work with. The course lasts for three hours per week for three terms and three Saturdays (108 hours total).

Assessment/Exams
Coursework and completion of learning journal. Externally marked exam.

Progression/Career Path
On completion of the course students can apply for entry to Diploma, or can use qualification in work context.
