About this course

This two year, part time Level 3 course is designed to contribute towards the knowledge and understanding for the NVQs in Engineering Level 3. It provides a valuable alternative if you do not have access to the NVQ.


This qualification is for you if you:



  • Intend to follow an Apprenticeship programme

  • Wish for career progression in the engineering industry

  • Wish to develop the skills learnt from other qualifications

  • Require evidence towards the underpinning knowledge of the N/SVQ


You will complete a range of mandatory and optional units, including:



  • Engineering health & safety

  • Engineering principles

  • Maintenance of pneumatic systems

  • Maintenance of hydraulic systems

  • Principles of mechanical manufacturing engineering

  • Machining materials by turning


You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations. You will also develop essential employability skills including:



  • Self-management

  • Team working

  • Business awareness and customer awareness

  • Problem-solving

  • Communication

  • Basic literacy and numeracy

  • A positive attitude to work

You need to have a keen interest in engineering and have the enthusiasm and drive to develop your practical and analytical skills. Full commitment to attendance is required. Respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject and self motivation are the essential qualities we expect to see in all our learners. There is an expectation that you will continue your studies and coursework during your own time.
