There are over 200 dance companies in the UK and over 30,000 people are employed in dance-related careers such as dancers, teachers, choreographers and therapists. Fashion is also worth over £26 billion and the UK has some of the most recognised clothing brands in the world.Thousands of people are employed across the sector and a variety of exciting careers are available within either the performing arts and production or the worlds of dance, music, media and clothing design and manufacture.All programmes are led by engaging tutors with years of experience in the creative industries and include opportunities for work experience and live performances.You will be encouraged to undertake work experience to support your learning in a hands-on, practical way. Opportunities from national and regional performing arts bodies, creative agencies and sector organisations will be advertised to students. You’ll also have the opportunity to take part in trips and workshops to enhance your professional understanding of the sector.

Course programme



  • Art and design: You will explore and develop your creativity while learning essential art, design and media skills. You will gain both practical and theoretical skills in the key areas of two and three dimensional design, such as fashion, textiles, graphic design, sculpture and product design. Alongside this, your ability and experience of painting, drawing, research and reflection will be continually developed throughout the programme. Our tutors are specialists in their field and will encourage you to work with visiting artists and live client briefs to create a unique portfolio of work.
  • Dance: You will sharpen your technique in a variety of choreography, from classical ballet and jazz to contemporary and urban styles. You will build your confidence in live performances and learn more about healthy living as well as the historical context of performance. You will undertake projects and work alongside students from other specialist areas, such as performing and production arts and supported studies in order to produce live performances and events.
  • Fashion: You will acquire skills that prepare you for the fashion industry, from both the design perspective (textiles and fabric manipulation, garment construction, fashion illustration, pattern cutting, print-making, knit and stitching) as well as the business perspective (sampling and buying). You will learn to generate your own ideas, which you’ll carry through every stage of the process to a final catwalk show – creating practical outcomes that meet industry standards and that will be added to your own portfolio of work. You’ll also have the opportunity to undertake work placements at some of Britain’s top fashion houses including French Connection, Topshop, Joseph, Nicole Farhi, John Lewis and BHS.
  • Film and sound: You will study they aspects of film making and industry best practice. With a dedicated studio you will have access to professional equipment and industry standard software. The programme will cover a range of skills, including motion graphic’s, lighting techniques, sound design, post productions and photography. You will generate a professional portfolio of work to support your application to industry or further education.
  • Graphic design: You will have access to industry standard equipment and software to explore specialisms such as illustration, print and publishing, motion graphics and typography. You will gain real life experiences and generate a professional portfolio to support your future destinations.
  • Music: You will learn about all elements of music performance, from developing instrumental skills to understanding the music industry. We create real music industry programmes with an eye on how you can earn money in the future. We teach you to have a portfolio-style career based around areas such as performance, teaching and event management. Students have the opportunity to gain real work experience within our facilities and events, as well as with our industry partners such as Yamaha, Marshall, Shure and Ernie Ball.
  • Performing arts: You will develop knowledge and ability in acting, directing, script writing, musical theatre and backstage management. In terms of production, you will develop an understanding of lighting, sound, set construction and stage management. You will also look at performing arts in historical context, performing arts businesses, theatre for children and site specific performances. Students have the chance to perform or work on production at a range of different professional venues both large and small. You’ll also undertake theatre trips, residential stays and professional masterclasses as well as undertake backstage work experience.
  • Production arts: During your time on this programme your lessons and workshops will take place in our purpose built lighting studio and 300 seat theatre, which are equipped to current industry standards. The programme will cover a range of skills including scenic construction for stage, live sound and stage management. Opportunities can include professional work experience, working on external shows and events as part of your learning experience as well as in our own theatre. We have established some great links with industry and students in the past have undertaken work experience backstage at West End shows and musicals. If you love stage, theatre and shows and want to be involved in the making, this is the ideal programme for you.
