Course programme

Selection is by an interview. You should have: • At least 4 GCSEs at grade D and above including English or a Level 1 Foundation Certificate. • A good reference from school or other organisation. • Portfolio evidence of your own creative work in art, design or photography is useful, although not essential. Applications are welcome from mature students and a good portfolio and/ or previous experience may be accepted in place of formal qualifications. Course Content You will learn about the wide range of jobs across the media industries; how media gets messages across to audiences; and the process for making ‘products’ such as television programmes, internet pages and radio. By the end of the year you will have begun to gain familiarity with several kinds of digital media software for making video, audio and web products. You will also have learnt the basics of using video cameras, digital stills cameras and sound recording equipment. How will I be assessed? Assessment is mainly based on continuous coursework, but with an externally assessed key skill portfolio. Progression The course is designed for progression to the BTEC 90 Credit Diploma in Media, which can, in turn, lead to higher education and work in the media industry. Fees If you are aged 16–18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases.
