This short course is designed to support those who are interested in conducting research into placements and work-based learning, or who oversee or manage a work-based learning or placement scheme in their own organisation.
In recent years there has been an increasing emphasis on students experiencing work-based learning, as part of a formal education experience, in schools, colleges and universities. In addition, many sector skills councils, employer organisations and forums, are calling for more work-based learning, and placements, in education. Institutions are now making a virtue of the work-based learning experiences they can offer, and some sectors (i.e. Higher Education) are being evaluated on the placement opportunities, and the successful future employment of their students.
The short course will critically appraise the latest research in this field, as well as related pedagogy. You will be expected to develop new approaches to work-based learning and placements, through the use of digital technology, and to critically evaluate and synthesise current policy material, and related pedagogic theory.
