About this course
This course is suitable for anyone who has some experience of creative writing, probably having completed either the Getting Started or Improvers’ level course, and would like to further develop their understanding of the subject, their creative writing skills, and their confidence in writing.
A good command of English is essential, as is some experience of and interest in creative writing. An ambition to develop your work as far as you can or a strong desire to take your creative writing towards publication would be beneficial.

How will I learn?
A mixture of small group discussions and interactive activities and individual tasks, as well as the continual development of your own projects.
How will my progress be monitored and assessed?
There is no formal assessment for this course, but you will receive continual feedback from your tutor and comments from your fellow class members.

What equipment or materials will I need to provide?
None, other than a pen and some paper. Use of a computer outside of the class would be useful.
What other support is available?
Help with numeracy or literacy is available. ICT drop-in sessions are available during term time and are open to all learners. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Learner Support Funding is available for equipment, childcare and travel to learners who qualify. Key principles of prose writing – developing characterisation, ‘showing’ skills, using characters to generate plot, developing character voice, writing dialogue, using subtext, writing monologues
Advanced techniques in creative writing, especially geared towards the production of larger pieces of work, including:
• Using scenes
• Plotting
• Critiquing
• Advanced use of viewpoint
• Seeking an outlet for your work, and issues of publication
