Course programme
The BA (Hons) Criminology degree offers students the opportunity of undertaking a comprehensive programme of study within the context of a multidisciplinary framework which acknowledges the eclectic nature of criminology. The degree provides students with an overall understanding of the nature of crime and its control, encompassing major theoretical paradigms which have helped formulate theory and practice within the field of contemporary criminology.
The programme and the courses available within it will appeal to students with a keen interest in criminology, social sciences and law, together with those considering employment within the criminal justice system. Students interested in the social care and welfare professions of social work, mental health, youth work or child protection will also benefit from this degree.
The programme offers a socio-legal approach providing a thorough grounding into crime, the causes of crime, crime prevention and the criminal justice process. A comparative perspective within the programme encourages an understanding of criminology at a national and international level.
