Why study BSc(Hons) Criminology with Psychology?
Criminology with Psychology brings together the study of crime and the science of the mind to better understand how crime impacts on individuals and society. Drawing on a range of other disciplines including sociology, law and philosophy, you will explore the theories, policies, processes and relationships that influence attitudes, beliefs and behaviour. You will also develop a range of skills that enhance your employability, such as critical thinking and data interpretation, how to evaluate evidence and write reports, presenting reasoned arguments and making ethical judgments.

Criminology with Psychology at UWE Bristol offers opportunities for work placements, volunteering and other work-based experiences. In year 2 you will benefit from work-integrated learning opportunities, which combine work experience with critical self-reflection on what you have done.

Year one

  • Introduction to Criminological Theory
  • Introduction to Criminal Justice
  • Introduction to Psychology
  • Research Design and Analysis

At the end of year one, you can choose whether to major in Criminology or to major in Psychology and continue with Criminology as a minor subject (see course entry for Psychology with Criminology for full details). Students wishing to gain a degree recognised by the British Psychological Society should opt for the Psychology major option.

Please also note this structure is for the full-time course delivery only. For part-time delivery, the same modules will be studied. However, the structure will differ.

Learning and Teaching

We use a variety of traditional and non-traditional methods of teaching from formal lectures, seminars and workshops to one-to-one tutorials and ICT based learning technologies. It is of significant benefit to the quality of teaching that seminar numbers are kept to a maximum of 20 students.
