About this course

Entry requirements: Completion of a Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery. Additional support will be provided if required. However, a good level of Maths and English would be an advantage. You will be interviewed by course staff and as part of the admissions procedure you will undertake initial assessments in literacy, numeracy and practical skills (unless progressing from level 1).

Course programme


Overview of the course:

The main focus of the level 2 programme is to develop practical skills needed for industry and enhance underpinning knowledge of relevant industrial processes and techniques. These will be delivered in a workshop environment for practical sessions and classroom based for theory sessions and academic tutorial. also incorporated into the study programme will be functional skills (maths & English), tutorial, work experience, academic tutorial and relevant trips & guest visits.


Topics:

For this award you will study six units (if you have completed a level). When candidates have passed all six units, they must then pass a phase test and a job knowledge test. The job knowledge test is set externally but completed online at the College. The practical end tests you will undertake in the workshop upon successful completion of the units below.

Units for the qualification consist of:

• Understanding information and communication

• Understanding construction technology

• Carrying out first fixing operations

• Carrying out second fixing operations

• Carrying out structural carcassing

• Carrying out maintenance to carpentry work
