Introduction:
This course examines the cutting of men`s hair using a variety of techniques to achieve different effects and looks. The techniques include: graduation, layering, club-cutting, scissor over comb, clipper over comb, texturising, tapering and thinning. It is a unitised intermediate level course which allows progression to full NVQ Level 2 qualifications.

Study Mode & Location:
This 20 week course will last for 3 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR. For details of days and times, please contact the Advice Centre on 10772 225522.

All practical work (including assessments) must be carried out on paying clients, which you will be asked to provide.

Course Content:
This course looks at the application of techniques to create basic looks for men, whilst taking into account critical influencing factors. Some emphasis is put on product use and recommendations for differing hair, skin and scalp types. Units of study include:

• Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques (H8)
• Dry hair to shape to create different looks for men (H14)
• Cut hair using basic barbering techniques (H7)

Assessment:
Assessment will be carried out during the course by an assessor observing and questioning your practical work, and by written papers and assignments. All practical work (including assessments) must be carried out on paying clients, which you will be asked to provide. It is a requirement of the course that no less than 90% attendance is acceptable in order to achieve this qualification.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course allows progression to a full NVQ Level 2 in Barbering/Hairdressing, or to other NVQ Level 2 unit qualifications.

  You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
