2. Course description Summary: This course offers a great starting point for a career within the field of dance prior to further study. Course description: This course includes the practical and theoretical study of dance as well as plenty of performance opportunities, including becoming part of our theatre company,Platform Productions. On the course you will study jazz, contemporary, street and lyrical alongside theory based work which will underpin practical skills. As a member of Platform Productions students will have the opportunity to develop a range of dance, academic and communication skills, appropriate to working in the industry. You will also perform in public performances in our state of the art theatre, take part in trips to the theatre and professional practitioner workshops. Platform Productions embraces the talents of young people and provides a hub for learning, training and development. You will gain all the necessary skills and experiences within a working theatre. Key tasks could include: - preparing for performances by rehearsing and exercising; - performing to live audiences - studying and creating choreography - discussing and interpreting choreography - learning and using other skills such as singing - for example musical theatre, requires a combination of performance skills - taking care of the health and safety of yourself and others, which requires knowledge and observation of physiology and anatomy, as well as safe use of premises and equipment to avoid injury - developing research and rehearsing/polishing performances in your own time liaising with arts and dance organisations - managing the day to day running of the theatre, including front of house duties
