This course will develop your skills as a dancer, performer and choreographer. Practically you will study a variety of styles, including contemporary, ballet, jazz and urban. You will also develop your understanding and appreciation of dance as an art form, which in turn will underpin your practical development.
There will be opportunity to perform in-house, as well as external performance opportunities, such as touring or large scale site-specific projects. You will have workshops from visiting practitioners and many opportunities to see professional dance works.
For students who are older and/or already possess AS or A2 qualifications and who want to progress to university we offer the option of one year of study on the 90 Credit Diploma where you can enhance your skills whilst improving your UCAS points total: the 90 Credit Diploma carries up to 180 UCAS points.

Course programme

On this course you will learn: Contemporary dance technique Jazz dance and technique Ballet technique How to be a healthy performer Dance performance Dance appreciation Choreography The Performing Arts business You will develop skills in a wide range of dance disciplines through working in small and large groups, as well as independently. The course gives you the opportunity to work on the disciplines you want to concentrate on and you will also work alongside a technical team, costume, hair and make up students and other students. The course is delivered at the Park Lane Campus. We often take part in workshops at Leeds Grand, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Yorkshire Dance and Northern Ballet. Jordan studied on the level 2 in Performance and progressed onto the level 3 the following year. He is now in the final semester of the level 3 course and is going on to drama school in September. We asked him 4 questions: What was the highlight of your level 2 course? "End of year show, Leeds Tales. We devised it all ourselves with songs, dances and character sketches." How did the work at level 2 prepare you for level 3? "By giving me a boost in all 3 disciplines, Acting, Singing and Dancing." What are your plans for the future? "After Drama school, looking for work as a performer." What advice would you give to yourself 3 years ago? "Never stop looking for opportunities." Most successful students progress to Higher Education study at college, university or dance academies. A Foundation Degree in Dance is available at Leeds City College. Students can also progress directly into dance-related work. Many 'transferable skills' are developed on the course.
