Foundation degree Performing Arts (Dance) will give you the skills to embark on a career as a professional dance performer and practitioner, as well as consolidate your existing skills and apply and develop them in a practical, professional context.
You will be able to develop traditional and contemporary dance techniques through practical work supported by theoretical study. You will also experiment with your own choreography, producing dance pieces appropriate to your audience. Your work will involve responding to appropriate briefs and working on live projects both as part of a team and independently, leading to the development of a professional portfolio. You will be looking at skills relating to entrepreneurship in the working environment - such as promoting dance performance work, communicating with clients, and presenting yourself and your work professionally.
Throughout the course you will be encouraged to work innovatively and creatively to meet agreed work outcomes, investigating contemporary dance practice and building a network to support your future plans. If your aim is to achieve a higher qualification, this Foundation degree offers a platform to move on to further study such as a BA (Hons) in Performing Arts.
