Probably everybody has heard of "Facebook" social networking site and "Cambridge Analytica" enterprise's scandal, when during the 2016 the USA President's elections campaign Donald Trump's office used more than 50 million "Facebook" users' data. The future US President's office used this data for the candidate's promotion in the election process, which could have lead to Donald Trump's victory.
This is a classical example if we talk about the application of the data analysis technologies in the modern world. The private "Facebook" users' data is worthless in its nature, however, when classified and used correctly, it may become a powerful weapon.
Do Lithuanians really like sportive or intellectual games? How much time per day or week do they spend on entertainment? How much do they pay for a memorable entertainment? Do they more often pay in cash or use their credit cards? These and many other questions are dealt with by, for instance, the owners of a new entertainment center.
Statistics and medical institutions, various public services, mobile operators, banks, shops, transportation and other private sector institutions, social networking sites, gaming websites and a myriad of online service providers accumulate an immense volume of data. This information is also being collected by smart gadgets, which have become an integral part of our daily life.
This data is just the online rubbish in its nature, which is meaningless and non-applicable. However, if it falls into the hands of a specialist, this data turns into meaningful information that is being used by modern business, educational institutions, and even politics. Any solid strategy is initially based on statistics.
