DB2 for z/OS Advanced Database Administration

Objectives
On successful completion of this course, attendees will be able to:

• appreciate the latest on-line schema enhancements
• use LISTDEF and TEMPLATE to generate generic utility tasks
• appreciate the enhanced facilities to manage partitions
• identify and use the latest performance and availability enhancements for loading, unloading and reorganising data
• describe how large object data is held, and its recovery implications
• identify the need for and definition of user defined distinct types, user defined functions, triggers and stored procedures
• identify the use and relevance of packages and collections in program preparation.

DBAs responsible for the design, implementation and ongoing support of DB2 databases wishing to expand their knowledge and skills.
Prerequisites
An understanding of the DB2 relational database management system and database administration tasks in general. This can be gained by attending the RSM course DB2 Database Administration.

Using LISTDEF to build reusable object lists; using TEMPLATE to generate data set names and attributes and simplify JCL; the use of the OPTIONS statement to control execution parameters.
This segment examines the use of LISTDEF, TEMPLATE and OPTIONS statements in setting up and controlling utility jobs.

Utility performance and availability
LOAD enhancements; REBUILD INDEX enhancements; REORG enhancements; UNLOAD enhancements.
