Taping is often under estimated as an effective adjunct in the management of musculoskeletal problems. This course examines the scientific evidence of taping, the clinical rationale and clinical reasoning strategies including assessment and reassessment. Clinical case histories will discuss the clinical application of taping when used for postural fault corrections; unloading musculoskeletal structures, muscle imbalances, motor control and mechanical restrictions for spinal and periphery dysfunctions. Clinical application is the emphasis with 30% theory and 70% practical.
Course learning objectives:
On successful completion of this course, the student will have:
- understood the scientific evidence of deep dynamic muscle tissue massage model (DDMTM)
- developed clinical reasoning strategies for the appropriate application of DDMTM model
- evaluated the assessment and reassessment of specific DDMTM throughout this hierarchical model
- understood the precautions and contraindications of the DDMTM model
- understood and accurately palpated the anatomical structures
- involved revised and practised basic soft tissue techniques
- experienced and practised DDMTM model for cervical, thoracic and lumbopelvic regions, specific muscle groups involved in postural imbalances such as quadratus lumborum, psoas major, iliacus, diaphragm, intercostals, latissimus dorsi, pectoralis minor, pectoralis major, upper trapzius, scaleni and rectus capitis muscles
- experienced and practised different types of taping techniques related to different musculoskeletal clinical presentations
