I received a full scholarship to participate in a 2 year, Erasmus Mundus Master of Science in Flood Risk Management. During the course I studied in four universities across Europe specialising in several different areas of flooding such as hydro-science and engineering, hydroinformatics, coastal engineering, spatial planning and the socio-economic risks involved with flood disasters.

Coventry University is a modern university wit top notch facilities to better enhance the lives of its students. The learning atmosphere is very conducive, study materials are readily available. The International Community is also well represented, giving room for networking, learning diverse cultures and having a wide view of the world in the eyes of the different people we come across.There have been different fairs organised in the university premise, attended a few of them and had a wonderful experience. Coventry University is the only school that offers Petroleum and Environmental Technology, which is quite exciting. The lecturers are great, disseminating lectures in a professional and friendly manner.

My experience at Coventry University has surpassed my expectations. Superbly relevant , intellectually rigorous course content; very good facilities on uni; friendly staff, students and city mates; safe neighbourhood; and convenient location of stores. What more could one ask for? All modules are tailor-made to real-work situations. Lecturers are highly experienced, helpful, and challenge us to thing way outside the box.They are so helpful and approachable. Our class engaged them on an issue we needed resolved regarding one of our modules. With their guidance, we made a case that was decided favourably for our class. The academic staff is pretty flexible and they gladly meet you on request. There are counselling and support services for depressed students, mental breakdown, academic writing, among others. The whole community participates in cancer charity work, and periodically gets involved in activities to clean the city.

The knowledge that I have about the European country and their system is a valuable asset for me as a person who came from Africa. It’s a great opportunity to study abroad, to know more advance sciences and to absorb the values of European culture. Everything is well organised and personal problems are paid great attention. It will definitely help since my background is forestry and natural resource management and I have worked in this field in Nepal and in India. Now this Masters in European forestry will help me to be influential in the European arena. European countries are doing much more in the forestry sector. But, in developing countries forest protection and the livelihood of the people is only one theme of forest management. The knowledge that I have about the European country and their system is a valuable asset for me as a person who came from Africa. I am originally from Orléans Canada – a suburb of the Nation’s Capital: Ottawa. I have two major career goals for my life: (1) to become a university professor/researcher and (2) to become the superintendent of one of Canada’s beautiful National Parks. I started my student career at Sir Sandford Fleming College in Lindsay, Ontario. I spent three years in Lindsay graduating as an Ecosystem Management Technician and as a Parks and Forest Recreation Management Technician. Following this, I spent a fourth year in Fleming at their Haliburton, Ontario campus and got a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Adventure Tourism Management. Knowing full-well that this would not be it for me as a student I then applied to the Faculty of Forestry and the Forest Environment at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. During my studies at Lakehead University I took some Finnish language courses and decided that I should put them to good use by going on exchange there.
