Dentist Course

The figure of the dentist is a doctor specialized in the care of the oral cavity, deals with operating on teeth and gums, extracts and replaces teeth with dental implants, performs hygiene operations, caries caries and other damage to the tooth or enamel. The first manipulations carried out by man on decayed teeth date back to the Paleolithic. On the other hand, the first written records of dental care are due to the Egyptians, 4000 years before the birth of Christ, in addition to the first written recipe for a toothpaste. Greeks and Romans perfected more and more the medical art and techniques that concerned the care of teeth and gums. The term dentistry, however, dates back to the end of the 19th century. It was coined to indicate that branch of medicine that is dedicated to prevention, to the diagnosis and medical therapy of pathologies affecting one or more parts of the stomatognathic system: teeth, gums, upper and lower jaw bones, salivary glands, oral mucosa. Attention to all of these elements means much more than good mouth and teeth health. In fact, it has been shown that the functions of the stomatognathic system do not only concern those related to mouth movements, such as phonation, chewing, swallowing and facial expressions, but also have an important impact on breathing and on the postural tonic system. Problems related to posture, musculoskeletal disorders and pains can be caused by a malfunction of the organs that are part of this complex system.
