• How to make your one-day workshop come to life. We'll provide the script, presentation, and templates to help make it happen. You'll just need to bring the right attitude, experience, and commitment to helping spread human-centered design!

How the Course Works:

As a Facilitator, you will create a great learning experience for people new to human-centered design and encourage participants to roll up their sleeves to learn by doing. The Facilitator's Guide to Human-Centered Design helps facilitators prepare and guide participants to try new ways of thinking and approaching problems more creatively.

The Facilitator's Guide is a set of materials that includes Planning Guidelines, a Workshop Presentation Deck, Presentation Script and Notes, Participant Worksheets and Handouts, Pre- and Post- Workshop Communications, Agenda Templates, and Surveys.

We're offering The Facilitator's Guide to Introducing Human-Centered Design to people like you who are excited about spreading human-centered design to others free-of-charge, and helping to solve some of the world's biggest problems. In exchange, we ask you to share with us your workshop experience through on the course platform.

WHAT TYPE OF PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED?
Before you facilitate a one-day workshop human-centered design, it's important that you've had some experience in practicing this approach yourself. If this process is new to you, we highly recommend you take IDEO.org's introductory Course for Human-Centered Design and that you practice human-centered design in your own work first before leading others through the process.

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?
This course will be available on-demand for 8 weeks so that you can distribute the planning for your one-day workshop. You should expect to spend around 2-3 hours per week of prep time during the first weeks of the course. At the end of the course, you should expect to spend approximately 5-7 hours per week. The actual time of running the one-day workshop is scoped to be 8 hours, not including set-up and follow-up.

WILL I BE ABLE TO CHARGE MONEY OR MAKE A PROFIT FOR RUNNING MY WORKSHOP?
No. IDEO.org is releasing these materials under the Creative Commons attribution, non-commercial, no derivatives, 3.0 unported license, and therefore you may not use this work for commercial purposes. You may, however, take contributions to cover the cost of other workshop amenities—i.e. space, food, drink, etc.

WILL I NEED TO FORM A GROUP?
Unlike other Design Kit courses, this resource will not require you to form a team on the course platform. However, you will be responsible for recruiting workshop participants (required) and other co-facilitators (optional). We will provide some additional guidance and outreach materials as part of the course materials.

WHO SHOULD I INVITE TO MY WORKSHOP?
We'll cover this in the course materials, but if you'd like to get a head start, think about who your audience is, what the workshop goals are, and take a look at who in your network who could be a good champion of innovation. These are certainly people to bring on board early.

IS THERE A SET CLASS SCHEDULE EVERY WEEK?
No, there is no set curriculum to cover each week, and you are free to review the materials, complete the planning, and deliver the workshop at your convenience. Of course, you'll want to take into account your audience and co-facilitators when scoping your preferred timeline.

WILL A CERTIFICATE BE AWARDED UPON COMPLETION OF THE COURSE?
Yes, you'll receive a Statement of Accomplishment signed jointly by +Acumen and IDEO.org subject to course completion, which is determined by sharing back survey data from you and your workshop participants.

CAN I TELL PEOPLE I'M RUNNING A WORKSHOP FOR IDEO.ORG OR THAT I'M ENDORSED BY, EMPLOYED BY, OR AFFILIATED WITH IDEO.ORG?
No. This workshop leverages tools developed by IDEO.org for a global community of learners and burgeoning practioners of human-centered design. However, it is NOT led by IDEO.org. By downloading these materials, you agree that you will NOT present yourself as an employee, representative, or speaking on behalf of IDEO.org.
