Course programme

On the Design & Technology study programme you’ll learn everything you need to make the technical side of a creative dream come true. You might do this for big productions – such as spectacular events and festivals, major theatre productions and large concerts – or, on a smaller scale for anything from innovative exhibitions and conventions to alternative multimedia projects. You will learn how to develop creative concepts using the tools of your craft: lighting, sound and digital design.

You’re going to be your team’s innovator and designer, so you’ll need to learn to think in terms of sound and lighting – and have the technical know-how to create what you envisage. You’ll also learn to operate well as part of creative teams, which will typically include a director, set designer, video, lighting and sound designers, a producer and a technical producer. And you will learn to offer input as a team member – right from the concept stage.

This course is the only one of its kind in the Netherlands. It’s also very focussed on you as an individual, you will be taught in small groups. And it’s very practice-oriented. This is the only programme of its kind to be part of a faculty that trains students in every theatre and dance genre. That means you get to work closely and intensively with students from other disciplines on highly individual projects and productions. You will also do internships at well-established professional practices, so you’ll have you years of practical experience before you even graduate! The department is excellently equipped. You will get work in a state-of-the-art studio/lab for digital design and thoroughly explore the latest digital and technological innovations, such as 360-degree video and virtual and augmented reality.

Attention!
The language of the Theatre Department is Dutch. In order to function up to the mark in the lessons, foreign students are required to speak, write and read Dutch. For more information about application we refer to the Dutch website.
