This course is suitable for absolute beginners to web design and Dreamweaverâ"¢. It will give you the ability to create your own website using the features and facilities of the Macromedia Dreamweaverâ"¢ Studio 8 package. The emphasis is upon development of a website for non commercial purposes. Course topics
  • Planning and designing a suitable web structure using a good design practice
  • Using Dreamweaverâ"¢ to create your web structure
  • Laying out Pages and using Templates to apply a uniform style to your website
  • Using layers, behaviours etc. to enhance the appearance and usability of your web pages
  • Using various techniques to create photo Galleries
  • Creating a blog that allows entries to be added and deleted as required
  • Creating forms and e-mail links
  • Adding audio, video and animation to your site
  • Adding hit counters, search facilities and other management and tracking facilities
  • Publishing your website on the World Wide Web
Teaching and Learning
You will work through a series of structured exercises using a prepared set of resources to develop skills and knowledge. These will then be applied to a website of your own design.

During each lesson there will be a taught element with time available to apply techniques learned to develop your own website with the opportunity for one-to-one support.

Course notes and materials are available on-line allowing further development of your website outside the college.

The course is progressive, building from week to week, using basic skills and techniques in different ways to reinforce learning and develop new skills in a logical manner.

Web publication of personal websites will require that students obtain web space from an Internet service provider. Many students will have this as part of their normal ISP package. The course will demonstrate web publication through use of the college†s Intranet services, which are not accessible via the World Wide Web.

Assessment details
There is no formal assessment with this course.

Progression: Further Web development techniques can be learned through the Web Design using Dreamweaverâ"¢ - Intermediate course.

Notes

Extra costs : USB memory stick, (512 Mb or above recommended), writing materials, notebook, a copy of Dreamweaverâ"¢Studio 8 web authoring package and web space supplied by an ISP.
