A brief induction onto the course.You will be introduced to the ukulele and some basic repertoire. You will learn how to tune and hold the instrument, learn how your right and left hands work together to allow playing of a number of popular songs and traditional melodies

About this course

This course is suitable for beginner level learners who would like to progress their playing of the ukulele.

You do not need any formal qualifications but a little prior knowledge of ukulele playing will help.You do not need to be able to read music.

Course programme

How will I learn?

You will learn through listening to and watching practical demonstrations of tunes and by following written TAB notation and song sheets. You will participate in the class ensemble. You will take your new skills home for further regular practice between sessions.

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

Your tutor will continually observe and support you individually and give you regular verbal and written feedback about your progress.

We hope you enjoy the course and decide to continue your learning. Your tutor will be able to advise on further opportunities near the end of your course.

What equipment or materials will I need to provide?

You should bring your own ukulele (soprano, concert and tenor sizes are suitable, we play in standard C tuning), an electronic tuner, pen/pencil and a wallet/folder to keep your handouts in.

What other support is available?

Help with numeracy or literacy is available. ICT drop-in sessions are available during term time and are open to all learners. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Learner Support Funding is available for equipment, childcare and travel to learners who qualify.
