Course Content

This 12 week course, delivered 2 hours a week, is designed to help individuals of any age who lack self-confidence in dealing with work or social situations that demand assertiveness or interaction.

Learning Outcomes

The learner will:

  • Have an understanding of reasons for feeling confident and lacking confidence.
  • Be given skills enabling them to feel confident in situations, which were previously challenging.
  • Identify behaviours that convey confidence to others.
  • Identify ways in which own behaviour can influence ways in which she/he are viewed by others.
  • Have an understanding of effective participation in social situations.
  • Be given skills to help identify and give reasons for social situations, which make her/him feel uncomfortable.
  • Be given examples of behaviour, which would be appropriate in certain situations.
  • Identify ways in which s/he could change her/his attitude and behaviour in social situations to participate more effectively.
  • Have an understanding of ways to manage stress.

The learner can:

  • State what makes her/him feel stressed.
  • State how s/he deals with feeling stressed.
  • Identify techniques that can help reduce stress.
  • State ways in which these techniques can help her/him feel better.
  • Set personal objectives and plans for personal progression.
  • Identify short-term goals.
  • Produce a simple action plan that identifies ways to meet the goals.
  • Identify and record achievements that lead to attainment of the goals.
  • Identify ways in which goal setting has contributed to own self-confidence.
