Range of international professional qualifications

RUN IN HERTFORD AND ALSO AS INTERNATIONAL WEBINARS SO YOU CAN JOIN US WHEREVER YOU ARE

This program will be relevant to you if you are a coach, counsellor, teacher, trainer, facilitator, consultant, mediator, social worker, human resource professional, or any other role where you have a professional responsibility for the development of others. It can also be attended by professionals who already have enough qualifications but would like to add transactional analysis to their repertoire, and by anyone who wants to develop their own interpersonal skills and increase their understanding and awareness of the dynamics of childhood development, relationships, teams, families, organisations or institutions.

It is a work-based, very practical program to develop competence in the application of transactional analysis for anyone engaged in the development of others or of communities or organisations. TA is widely used internationally, has a robust background based on many years application in psychotherapy in addition to organisational consulting and training, educational, counselling and coaching specialisms. This program aligns with positive psychology in that the focus is on health and development rather than pathology. The program is led by internationally-accredited trainers, who also provide professional supervision/mentoring: this means that international accreditation can be obtained by students alongside the award of an MSc Professional Studies. In addition to regular workshops run in the UK, the program can be undertaken through attendance at online webinars and summer schools in various locations. We also accept hours spent learning from our international TA colleagues, subject to some restrictions relating to training for psychotherapists rather than for developmental applications of TA.

About this course

The aim of this program is to enable students to acquire the underpinning theoretical knowledge alongside the skills of applying transactional analysis in the variety of ways in which practitioners can facilitate the psychological development of individuals, groups, families, organisations or institutions.

Anyone with responsibility for the development of others, including consultants, coaches, educators, teachers, managers, counsellors, HR professionals – and for those who wish to move into roles such as these (but please note that we cannot provide work experience or placements, although we can advise you on how to initiate these)

There are no formal academic requirements to join the program. During the program, you will be expected to submit portfolios of evidence of work that you have done, accompanied by a reflective commentary that also demonstrates theoretical understanding.

This program is very much work based, and requires 3 or 4 years to reach the MSc standard. It is also possible to obtain a Certificate/Postgraduate Certificate after about 1 year, followed by a Diploma/PG Diploma after another year, for those who do not wish to continue to the MSc. The program can also lead to EMCC - European Mentoring & Coaching Council - and CMI - Chartered Management Institute - qualifications in addition where relevant.

Transactional analysis includes an amazing array of interconnecting models that are ideal for understanding the dynamics of people and the groups and organisations that they operate within. It is a bit like learning the secrets of the universe! All of our teaching is done by internationally accredited trainers, which means that they have demonstrated their competence through extensive examinations, so that you can be confident that the training provided will be of a high quality.

If you book for specific dates only, we will confirm your booking(s). We are quite happy for students to try us out with a few workshops or webinars before they commit to something more. If you already know that you want to do the complete course, then we will contact you when we receive your booking, for a free discussion about options and requirements.

We use www.numbeo.org as a guide to the relative purchasing powers in different countries and we then apply discounts to bring the costs in line with the fees paid in the UK.
We believe that no one should be prevented from learning transactional analysis because they do not have enough money, so we offer significant fee reductions in appropriate circumstances (although we cannot reduce the part of the fees that go to the University). In addition to taking into account personal circumstances, we are particularly keen to support people using TA as volunteers such as with refugees, prisoners, or any other disadvantaged groups.

We have shown the range of fees that apply for a series of 10 x 12-hour workshops or webinars, across one year, plus the fee for assessment which is based on the submission of evidence of professional activity. One year is usually the minimum needed to reach Certificate level, subject, of course, to the progress made by the student in reaching an appropriate level of competence. Another year will normally be needed to reach Diploma level, with a further one or two years to reach MSc and the optional international qualification.
In addition to the workshop/webinar and assessment fees, there are additional University fees. We cannot control the University fees but currently they are £2700 for the MSc level.
There are also likely to be some additional fees for one-to-one professional supervision/tutoring; these are based on a 20% uplift on whatever your own income is so they will not be too expensive for you. You are also likely to need to purchase some books and journals, join a local and/or International TA Association, and if possible attend some TA conferences.
We do not include fees charged by EMCC, CMI or ILM.

Supervision refers to the practice of helping professionals to be able to reflect and analyse how they are working. It is not like supervision in industry, where it tends to involve someone who is watching over what you do and telling you how to do it. The focus in our program is on helping you to develop your own meta perspective of what is happening when you are working with clients. Transactional analysis is a great framework for you to be able to analyse the dynamics between people, and therefore between you and other people, so that you can continually develop increased competence.
We offer supervision online as well as face-to-face.
In order to take into account the different levels of income around the world, we base our fee on a 20% uplift on whatever you get paid for your own professional work. We trust you to tell us what that amount is - we do not expect to see evidence from bank statements. If your professional application of TA is voluntary and you do not get paid, then our supervision fee is zero.

We run a series of international webinars each month, which use the same comprehensive workbook and cover the same material as each 2-day workshop in the same month.
Because we recognise that it is difficult to learn 'people skills' if you are studying online and alone, we use an online option that allows students to see each other on web cams and to ask questions and join discussions whenever they wish – so that the experience is as close as possible to being in the same room with each other.
We also encourage students to get together with others in the same location and join online as a group when possible.
We often travel to provide workshops in other locations and we also run summer schools in the UK and elsewhere.
In addition, we encourage students to attend any workshops that are run in their countries by our TA colleagues and we give credit hours (subject to some limitations when psychotherapy rather than developmental TA is the focus) even when those colleagues are not part of our training team.

The dates are given in the booking forms. You just count a year from whenever you join us.
Workshops run at weekends in Hertford 1000-1700 Saturdays and 0930-1630 Sundays.
Webinars (4 each month - different aspects of the monthly theme topic) run on two Fridays 1600-1900 UK time and one Saturday 0900-1200 & 1230-1530 UK times. We record webinars in case you have to miss any.
