This formation will enable you to develop your creative ability and technical graphics skills, allowing you to determine the career path you wish to take. The course is delivered via a combination of practical workshops, lectures, one-to-one tutorials and field trips to galleries and museums. You will engage in creating your own portfolio and will have the choice to specialise within a discipline of your choice, such as illustration, digital media, advertising or typography.

The course is aimed at students wanting to develop a career in various strands of the Graphic Design industry such as magazine design, publishing, branding and design agencies, art direction and advertising, website design, work in the television and film industries, founding their own design studio, further study and research. Our students also develop skills that can enable them to develop careers in a wide range of related industries such as Arts Administration, Education, Media Practice and research and much more.

The programme is complemented by visits to studio’s, agencies and industry practitioners; as well as attendance to Museums, Galleries and Exhibitions. The school takes part in international competitions, submits tenders and collaborates with companies thus allowing individual students or whole classes to take part in external professional offers – and ‘live projects’ which are always stimulating during their training period.

About this course

This course will offer you a solid introduction to the Adobe Creative Suite 6* applications: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. You will
gain a strong understanding of the principals of visual language, boosting your confidence in decision making and helping to develop your eye for design.

Age: minimum 18 years
Qualifications:
UK applicants: four GCSEs (C or above).
Minimum two A levels (D or above) any NARIC recognised equivalence
Language proficiency:
IELTS 5.5 (min. 5.0 in each component)
PTE 51 (min. 51 in each component)
TOEFL (IBT) 87 – min. L-21, R-22, S-23, W-21
Mature students: (over 21) are accepted subject to satisfactory literacy and numeracy tests, work experience (if applicable) and a strong personal statement

What will I experience?


You will have the opportunity to communicate ideas and concepts related to personal, corporate and commercial environments, also clients, audience and individuals. Identify presentation formats such as size, form, shape and surface. Explore the use of drawing components based on the formal elements used in the design field: line, form, tone, texture, colour, contour and a range of different presentation formats.


What will I learn?


  • Explore a wide range of the formal elements of 2D visual language such as line, tone, texture, composition, shape, form, volume, scale and visual space and how they interact with each other
  • Produce coherent 2D works that explore the potential of digital techniques, process and language, using different media
  • Analyse ideas visually from a wide variety of sources, as starting points for digital experimentation e.g. nature, the human figure, work by other artists, the mass media, own imagination
  • Find solutions to refine and complete digital work resolving successfully a wide range of type effects applying format type techniques using character settings, and layer properties effectively
