Course programme

Course structure

Students will be taken through what makes a strong photo, with references and examples of photographer's work, followed by an immediate hands-on session with cameras to put this theory in to practice. Throughout the sessions there will be student-led reviews, and the art of getting your photos on to the computers is covered at an early stage.

Students will learn all of the functions on their digital cameras and will be set short briefs that are open to interpretation. The actual technology of digital cameras will be talked through to give students a full understanding of how and why things work on their cameras and computers.

Once students have a good selection of images to work with they will be taken through an introduction in to Adobe Photoshop (industry-standard digital imaging software). This will cover image enhancement, photographic re-touching and special effects.

There will be a final review and feedback session, followed by some in-house printing. The final session will cover web publishing and avenues in to further self-promotion.
