Information about the courseThis is a two year course suitable for trainees who wish to develop an advanced counselling (agency) practitioner capability.
The course will require a strong commitment of time and energy, to develop understanding, capability and self reflection/awareness and peer support.
There is no guarantee of a place on year 2 unless you have secured a placement by the end of year 1.
Course contentThe qualification includes the following units:
1. Work ethically and safely as an agency counsellor.
2. Work within a counselling relationship.
3. Work with client diversity.
4. Work within a user-centred agency approach.
5. Work with self-awareness in the counselling process.
6. Work within a framework of counselling theory, skills and techniques.
7. Work self-reflectively as an agency counsellor and make appropriate use of clinical supervision.
AdditionalityThis Course will include mandatory attendance at 4 Saturday workshops per year (out of a total of 8 workshops).
Required - 30 personal counselling hours by end of programme.
Placement (client work) requirement: 100 hours minimum of formally contacted counselling - please refer to Counselling Team Leader for details - Annie Collinge-Kissane.
Minimum supervision requirement: CPCAB requires that candidates experience a minimum of 50 hours of Group Training Supervision sessions over the two years as part of the Centre's training programme as well as supervision in placement.
All learners at West Herts College take part in an initial assessment in order for us to help them succeed on their chosen course.
Please bring with you a notepad and pen.
You will need your Student ID card, Learning Agreement and invoice.
When will I receive my results?
Results will be forwarded on as soon as they are received at the college. Please note that certificates, where awarded, can take up to 4 months to be received at the college before forwarding on to learners.
AssessmentWeekly journal, essay/projects, practice sessions, student presentations, group training supervision, tutor observation, completed portfolio.
The external assessment takes the form of a taped session and review paper (Year 2).
