This course is intended for applicants who are working part time or wish to work with adults aged 18 years and over in an approved Health and Social Care setting such as domiciliary care, residential care or social care. Applicants must be able to undertake a 1-2 days per week placement (if not already employed in care) which they are required to secure and maintain for the duration of their course.

About this course

Learners should be 18 years or above and will ideally hold a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C or above including English or equivalent Level 2 qualifications, preferably in Health and Social Care or a related area. Applicants without these qualifications who hold appropriate equivalent experience in Health and Social Care and can demonstrate positive communication skills and effective levels of reading and writing sufficient to meet the requirements of this training may also be considered (an initial assessment will be undertaken to support your application) . What will I study on the course?

You will study exciting units including:

- Introduction to Duty of Care

- Communication

- Person Centred Approaches

Equality and Diversity

- Safeguarding, and Personal Development.

There are also a range of other units which you need to study including a wide variety of optional units which can be tailored to your setting and you can choose which fit in best with placement or career aspirations. For example, a learner volunteering within a setting caring for adults with dementia may wish to complete the dementia pathway units offered. Your placement will enhance your knowledge and provide you with the competency based elements of the qualification.

Additional information

The course runs for 1 day per week or 1 evening per week over 1 year and in addition to this you will be required to undertake a minimum of 1 day per week on placement (at least 250 hours over the academic year).
