This  level 1 programme is a one year course  that gives the learner the  ability to create a foundation of learning for those individuals who have an interest in both Health and Social Care or Childcare.  A variety of different units will be studied ranging from communication, equality, safeguarding and Welsh Baccalaureate. An opportunity to experience work-placement will be offered if learners complete the relevant checks required. 

About this course

There are no formal entry requirements however a keen interest in Health and Social care or Child care is essential. In order to pursue this qualification a basic level of Literacy and Numeracy would be beneficial. All learners will need to undergo a DBS check upon enrollement

Course programme

This programme will empower individuals to experience a range of units that can lead to either a Health and social care or Childcare pathway therefore supporting individuals in making valid informed choices for their future career.

The Health and Social Care pathway is based at Graig Campus

The Childcare pathway is based at Ammanford Campus.

Learners will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate at Post 16 Level 1 Diploma

Learners can if they achieve the Level 1 Diploma and display a positive code of conduct in both college and placement progress onto level 2 Full time Cache Diploma in Childcare, Level 2 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care or other work opportunities and training.

Additional information

Assessment will take on a variety of forms: observation, creative activities including Role play. Visits to care settings, placement, assignment tasks and peer observation and feedback. 

Some units are delivered Bilingually
