Overview
Once you have gained an understanding of the basics at level 1, you’ll further develop your skills by concentrating on fault finding and maintenance. By using various tests and by measuring equipment, you will expand your knowledge of chassis systems, vehicle electrics, engines and transmission systems. You will also look at roles available within the motor industry.

Entry Requirements
Successful completion of the IMI Level 1 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and a minimum of 2 GCSE’s grade C or above including maths and/or English are required to undertake thus course.

Course Duration
One year, full time.

Skills and Benefits
The Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles has been designed to build upon skills and knowledge you have developed on the Level 1 course. The course will give you a comprehensive grounding in theoretical and practical aspects of motor vehicle repair.

Removing and replacing light vehicle chassis components Fuel and ignition systems Light vehicle transmission systems Removing and replacing light vehicle electrical components Engine technology – removing and replacing Health and Safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment Tools, equipment and materials for vehicle maintenance Workplace relationships

Optional Units
There are no optional units on this qualification.

Course Assessment
There will be nine online tests and one assignment on Workplace Relationships to complete.

Progression
Upon successful completion of the qualification you can progress to Level 3 Diploma in Motor Vehicle or Level 2 Apprenticeship (subject to meeting the entry criteria and requirements related to the apprenticeship course).
