This is a work-based Horse Care qualification which is suitable for anyone with a job or work placement in the equine industry. You do not need any formal qualifications or any previous experience although a strong interest in horses is essential. To embark on a work based Diploma you need to be employed or have a work placement in industry.

What will I study on the course?

The Qualification consist of Mandatory units which include

Assist with Cleaning the stables and yard

Assist with feeding and watering horses

Restrain horses using specified methods

Maintain health and safety in the workplace

Maintain and develop personal performance

maintain effective working relationships with others

Catch and move horses under supervision

Groom and wash horses under direction

The optional unit is riding and if this can be offered by your employer, can be chosen to enhance your qualification and your future employment options.

Additional information

As this qualification is work based. Much of your learning will take place in industry. You will be required to attend college 1 day per week, by arrangement with your employer to cover underpinning knowledge. Much of your practical work will be assessed in the work place.
